Louise Longoria, the late mother of Deanna Longoria Ramirez, grew up in Laredo and became a dance teacher in that area. She once commented to her daughter, "You can lose the ability to sing and dance, but you never lose the rhythm." She felt that rhythm until she died at the age of 84. Each year, Melba's School of Dance awards a scholarship in her name.
